Plane Feelings

I am suspended
Building castles in the air
Of what's ahead
A time like this,
I think about totality
And try to write a poem
Which reflects the poetry
Of being up in the air
No matter what place -
How many places -
The world still resides in me.
If I'm not happy there
I won't feel at home in the land ahead
Nor even were I to build castles in the air.
These are my plane feelings.

And the sky is grey

'All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey, I went for a walk, on a winter's day (on a winter's da-ay'

Hallo liebe Leute,

In this blog entry I will simpy describe the life I am living now. The weather is cold, of course. And as I implied by siting the song above, the sky is often grey. But yesterday the sky was actually clear blue. That was beautiful.

Every school day I am going to school. One difference from school in Sydney is namely that there are boys. But another difference is, I think the students are somewhat more mature. In my class the kids are relatively well-behaved most of the time. I think they might be treated more as adults, and that could have something to do with it.

Anyway last weekend my host father, sister and I went into the city - Hamburg. I'm very glad I've already seen round it. We went to three Christmas markets! They all had that same welcoming, homely sort of atmosphere. You all should all experience Germany sometime, if possible. And if possible at this time of year.

Apart from that I'm just living life with my host family. That's what I came here to do! On Sunday afternoon we baked Christmas biscuits, a huge tinful of them. That night I went with Maleen to her choir practice, in the church. It went on for a long time, because before the actual practice a TV crew were filming them. I met some other friendly Germans there, which was nice. They are all young-ish, energetic and enthusiastic. After all it is a gospel choir...

Well for now I suppose that is it from me. Christmas is creeping ever closer. My parents and brothers will arrive for a visit a week from tomorrow. Tonight I'm going to a confirmation lesson around the corner, where my host father is pastor. Tonight an old man is talking about his experiences during WWII. Here in my new home the family has a gift-Advent calendar. Yesterday I opened the first present - it was an Elvis Presley Christmas CD! Echt geil.

Bye for now,

love Livy

What to title this post?

In 3 days I'll be up-up and away!

Today I had a beautiful picnic at a local park. It was with a bunch of friends --- the theme was 'Enid Blyton'. I personally think it was a success. Though it was windy and cold, it did not rain. That is a positive!!! The weather forecast was quite pessimistic, predicting that it would rain. But those doom-and-gloomers were not satisfied this time. The heavens are smiling down on me! Nothing may cloud the sun and happiness I forecast now.

Chrissy is all but upon us, and yet there's no place for stress. I'm not going to feel stressed out. I just wanna sit back for this wonderful ride and enjoy it. Is there anything wrong with that? Of course, there's something potentially very wrong with that. I just have not to forget others in the process. I can't forget that I am another fickle human, just learning to rely on God --- sometimes, or most of the time, doing a sorry job of it.

No matter that I make no sense to others. If nothing else, I am musing to myself and learning from it!

Live well,

PS I've ditched that whole pseudonym thing. It just confuses people.

We have count down

To my reader,
It is officially 2 weeks until I leave for Germany. No, I do not feel excited as you may understand it when you ask. But OF COURSE I'm looking forward to it!
I'm anticipating great things to happen, to collect in one big great experience. I hope that I'll be able to share it with people when I come back. I hope it really will be something special.
And I pray it'll be a stepping stone for my future and God will make it a time of blessings.

Cyberspace

As of this morning I have every reason to be freaked out by Cyberspace. What on earth has a random to do, with sending another complete stranger a message starting out, Hey beautiful lady. And how on earth would the guy think it encouraging if his virtual name incorporates the word, 'Killer'. I don't think so. I'm prepared to take weird, and I don't want to judge, but one has also to think in regards to his or her own personal cyber safety. So I made the decision to immediately terminate my account on that particular website. Whadda you reckon?

May as well take this opportunity to muse on the subject of fear, which is more pertinent now more than ever because of the potential danger of the internet, and its accessibility to kids. I guess you have to have a balance between security and the Uncertain. Ben Lee sings the words, "You can't climb til you're ready to fall". It is true, fear is the great crippler and you can't hide under a stone forever. But that doesn't mean you don't be careful.

I took my chances by signing up to a party networking site, which I felt a bit dodgy about to start with, in order to see a few pictures of my friend. But now I'm sure I do NOT want to be lurking around that particular dodgy-looking alleyway. For now, then, I'm just gonna play it (relatively) safe on Facebook and Flickr Photos and my Department of Education email account. Whadda you reckon?

To the Best Germany Ever! [Alternatively titled: To Germany... and beyond?]

Final Destination: Germany!
Duration of stay: approx. 10 weeks

This trip is important for me. I am getting more excited as the time to leave fast approaches! If you know me personally you will probably also know that I like learning German. But also I am sure, Germany will be part of my future to some extent --- this is exciting!.

When I and my family were in Germany around Christmas 06/07, we visited a really large and inspiring cathedral in Bavaria. I thought, then, that God would take me back there somehow. You know, I thought, maybe I am just imagining this. But anything can happen, I have no way of predicting what will happen. All the better, hey?

"Livy's Bean Bag" will serve as a travel journal during my exchange, and a means of communication to all those who want to hear what's going on with me. Hope I write interestingly enough that you will keep on coming back for updates!

Planning to write again soon,

What have I been up to?

Very early on in the school year, all the grade went down south, close to the Snowys. There was a ropes course --- I had no qualms about the heights at which we were walking ropes. It was fun, the best part for me being the final day or so; that was when we made our own fires on a hill and cooked our lunch on them, and later in the evening or the next day we had a disco.

Around June of this year, 2008, I was involved in our school production of Grease, which was actually a joint production with our brother school. The description of my character, Ms Lynch, was "an old maid English teacher". My mum took this picture of me so that I could show the director what I had fromhome for a possible costume.
And the last piccy is of me in a place that I hope will become a favourite haunt of mine. A nice little courtyard cafe selling good scones.
